This two-week trip takes off to the country’s extreme West to visit two out of five peaks at the famous and highest mountain massif in Mongolia, Altai Tavan Bogd. The Mountain and its significance rely on the beautiful yet one of the most challenging gateways to the peaks to see the whole mountain chain from its summit after spending more than one-third of a day to reach. You will spend a week in and around the Tavan Bogd Mountain and explore the National Park.
The tour starts with arriving at Ulaanbaatar, the capital city of Mongolia, and being transferred to a hotel. Begin the city sightseeing tour, including the most famous spots of Sukhbaatar square, Gandan monastery, and the Chingis Khaan Museum. Stay overnight in the hotel.
Transfer to the airport and get on a flight to Ulgii for approximately 4 hours. We will drive to the camping place and accommodated to a Mongolian traditional house called ger.
Drive to Biluu on the way to visit a Kazakh herder’s family to see their life and culture, listen to their songs, and to see them hunting eagles. Stay overnight in a tent.
Drive to the Altai Tavan Bogd Mountains. Sleep in a tent.
Visit and hike the glacier Potanin and prepare for climbing. Overnight in tents.
The next two days will be spent in the mountain area and you will climb to the Peak of Altai Tavan Bogd – Khuiten, at 4356 m above sea level. From the camp basis to the way up to the point, it’s about 7-15 km and takes about 5-6 hours. Continue climbing to the highest peak Khuiten, it will take about 9-10 hours.
Possibly climb to one of the five peaks of Tavan Bogd mountain - Malchin Peak at the elevation of 4050 m, it will take about 9-10 hours to go from camp basis all the way up. You will stay overnight in tents during this climbing period.
Spend the day relaxing in beautiful nature.
Drive back to the camping place and stay overnight in a ger.
Drive back to Ulgii and fly back to Ulaanbaatar. Check into the hotel and enjoy the last night in the city.
Transfer to the airport for departure
Previous climbing experience is preferred for this trip and each participant needs to bring their own climbing equipment.
