Bird watching around different attractions, in the clear water lakes and rivers over more than twenty days is one of the special excursions of many tours around Central Mongolia. You will visit the magnificent Gobi Desert, Khorgo volcanic mountain, Terkhiin Tsagaan (White Lake), and the Mongol Empire's ancient capital. During birdwatching, you will visit three different locations around Khorgo Mountain and watch many different rare species of birds.
The tour starts with arrival at Ulaanbaatar and transfers to the accommodated hotel. Begin the Ulaanbaatar city tour including National History Museum. Stay overnight in the hotel.
Drive to Elsen Tasarkhai sand dune, a combination of mountain, forest, and Gobi Desert landscapes that create spectacular scenery. Spend the afternoon birdwatching and stay in Mongolian traditional ger camp for the night.
Day 3-5
Trip to Ogii Lake, located in Arkhangai province in Central Mongolia. Explore the lakeside and enjoy some bird watching around the lake. You will stay overnight in a tent.
Continue the journey to Tsetserleg, enjoy the bird-watching experience and sleep another night in a tent by the Tamir River.
Today, we will drive to Khorgo National Park, located in the Khangai mountains. It is an amazingly beautiful place with extinct volcanoes and lava caves. On the way, stop for bird watching by the Chuluut River and the small lakes. Overnight in a tent.
Drive to clear freshwater Terkhiin Tsagaan (White Lake) (61sq.km) and stay overnight in a ger.
Bird watching in Khorgo:
a/ At the north side of Khorgo a volcanic mountain alpine region: Tetraogallus altaica, gypaetus barbatus, ...
b/ Around the lakes Terkh White Lake, Khodoo Aral, and the Terkh River: Ruddy Shelduck, Duckare, and Great Cormorant are common in summer nesting at Terkh White Lake.
c/ At the south side of the lake and the river Gichgene.
Drive back to Kharkhorin city in Arkhangai province. Overnight in Ger.
Arrive at the ancient capital of the Mongol Empire-Kharkhorin, and sleep the night in ger camp.
Visit the Erdene Zuu Monastery, the earliest surviving Buddhist monastery in Mongolia. Drive to Baga Gazryn Chuluu, rocks with amazing nature shape formations, and spend the day bird watching on the steppes. Stay overnight in a tent.
Drive back to Ulaanbaatar, overnight in a tent on the way.
Arrive at Ulaanbaatar city and spend the rest of the day free. Sleep overnight in the checked hotel.
Day for relaxation and preparation for return.
Transfer to the airport for departure.
