Burkhan Khaldun Mountain

Burkhan Khaldun is one of the Khentii Mountains that is located in the area of Umnudelger soum. Temuujin (Chinggis Khaan ) survived several times during his childhood when he was chased by the Gurvan Merged, thanks to Burkhan Khaldun Mountain. One time after coming back from his successful escape, he ordered to worship the mountain for all generations. For him, who was a worshipper of shamanism, the mountain was not only just great cliffs, swamps, and taiga; he believed that it had a sacred spirit. Therefore, the shrine of Burkhan Khaldun is at the foot of it but not on the top, because people believe that there are burials of dignitaries, so it must be kept in secret and is forbidden to climb. Burkhan Khaldun is one of four state-worshipped mountains; therefore, the black emblem of the state is worshipped and celebrated at the level of the nation.
