This particular trip is specialized for travelers who like to visit wild nature hikes and trek in the Ikh Bogd Mountain area. The journey will cover many tourist attractions and historical places from the capital city to Western Mongolia and to South Gobi back to Central Mongolia. You will visit the second largest freshwater lake called Black Water Lake, Bayan-Ulgii province, home to Kazakhs and the Gobi desert with its surreal beauties. Extended 19 days roundtrip around the Mongolian vast steppe and high Mountains will be one of the most memorable journeys you’ll ever experience in one’s lifetime.


Itinerary

Day 1.  Ulaanbaatar 

Arrive in Ulaanbaatar city, the capital of Mongolia, and transfer to the hotel. Begin the city sightseeing tour to the functioning Gandan Monastery, Sukhbaatar Square, Zaisan hill, and the National History Museum. Stay the night in the hotel. (L/D)


Day 2.  Olgii Western Mongolia

Transfer to the airport and get on an approximately three hours flight to Ulgii, the capital of Bayan-Ulgii province. Stay in a local hotel or standard Ger-camp nearby.  (B/L/D)


Day 3.  Kazakh Family

Drive to the famous Altai Tavan Bogd mountain, visit the glacier and explore the unique landscape. This mountain is a part of Altai Tavan Bogd National park and the highest peak of the mountain is called Khuiten Peak (4374m) which is also the highest point in Mongolia. Spend overnight in tents or in Gers by the base camp. (B/L/D)


Day 4.  Khoton Lake

Head to the Khoton and Khurgan lake in Tsengel Soum of Bayan-Ulgii province. Those twin freshwater lakes are part of Altai Tavan Bogd National Park and are interconnected by 2km channels each other. We will see the Milk river, which gives you a unique view of the way. Overnight in tents nearby the lake.  (B/L/D)


Day 5.  Turgen Valley

Drive to Turgen valley in the morning. The landscape is very unique and is the best place for hiking. After hiking in the area, go explore the amazing view and see the Baga Turgen waterfall, which falls from a 36m cliff and is divided into two beautiful waterfalls. Stay overnight in tents. (B/L/D)


Day 6.  Kazakh Livestock

Continue the journey to the capital Ulgii via Sagsai and visit a Kazakh livestock breeding family on the way. Stay in a local hotel or standard Ger-camp. (B/L/D)


Day 7.  Khovd City

Drive from Ulgii to Khovd city, and enjoy bird watching alongside the Tolbo lake. Located about 50 km from Ulgii, the freshwater lake Tolbo is a beautiful lake that is 2080m above sea level. Stay in tents on the way to Khovd city. (B/L/D)


Day 8.  Khar Us Lake

After reaching  Khovd city, spend some time shopping then drive to Gurvan Tserkheriin cave via Khar Us lake. The lake is translated as Blackwater lake and is fed by the Khovd and continues about 70km. Visit the famous cave which is registered by UNESCO for its rock painting and is located in the west of Mankhan Soum of Khovd province. Spend the night in tents.  (B/L/D)


Day 9.  Rock Painting

Visit rock paintings of Nukhen Utug. Drive further to the Shargyn Gobi area. During the road trip, you will experience the fascinating beauty of the scenery and observe the wildlife of Shargyn Gobi. Overnight in tents.  (B/L/D)


Day 10.  Gobi-Altai

Drive to Altai, the center of Gobi-Altai province, and visit the local museum. Trip to the Khan Taishir Mount and see the stone monuments on the way. Spend the night in tents. (B/L/D)


Day 11.  Bayankhongor Province

Drive to Bayankhongor province via Buutsagaan Soum. Picnic lunch on the way and continue the driving. Overnight in tents.  (B/L/D)


Day 12.  Orog Lake

Head to the dry Orog Lake, located in the northern part of Ikh Bogd Mount. Drive to the Camp by Bayangovi Soum. Stay the night in a standard Ger-camp. (B/L/D)


Day 13.  Ikh bogd Mount

Start a day trip to the Ikh Bogd Mount, and enjoy trekking and hiking in the mountain area. Stay the night in a standard Ger-camp.  (B/L/D)


Day 14.  South Gobi

Drive to one of the biggest dunes Khongoryn Els, and visit a camel breeding family on the way to experience their lifestyle. Trekking to the famous Singing Dunes and may ride a two-humped Mongolian camel (optional). Stay the night in a standard Ger-camp. (B/L/D)


Day 15.  South Gobi

The previous day's tour continues

Day 16.  Flaming Cliffs 

Head to Bayanzag. Walking through the saxaul forest and visiting the Flaming Cliffs. During sunrise and set, it looks as if those cliffs were on fire.  This is also where Roy Chapman Andrew found his first dinosaur’s eggs in 1922. Arrive in Gobi camp and spend the night in a standard Ger-camp. (B/L/D)

Day 17.  Vulture's Gorge

Day trip to Yolyn Am (Vulture’s Gorge) with lunch picnic. Those gorges are so deep that the sun can’t reach the ice where it's frozen all year long. Night in a standard Ger-camp. (B/L/D)


Day 18.  Ulaanbaatar

Fly back to Ulaanbaatar and spend the rest of the day free. Enjoy the evening with the Folklore show and stay the last night in the hotel. (B/L/D)


Day 19.  Departure

Transfer to airport or to train station.

All local transportation shared double accommodation in a decent middle-class hotel, countryside stays in Ger-camps and tents, city service, entire board (begins with a lunch on the 1st day and ends with the breakfast on the last day), domestic flights, entrance fees and a German- or English)-speaking guide.
